GRAYS Athletic have been fined £500 and docked two points for fielding ineligible players.

The football club, which has already been relegated from the Blue Square Premier league, is said to have breached the rules five times this season.

Daryl Robson played while ineligible on October 31 against Barrow, before the league received his registration.

Callum Leahy also played when he shouldn’t have, again prior to the receipt of registration.

Meanwhile Sam Cutler played while ineligible in three fixtures.

He was on the team sheet against Crawley Town on August 29 as a “contract player”, but the contract had been rejected by the Football Association and the new versionwasn’t approved until two days later.

The club then played Cutler twice after his monthly contract expired on September 30, at Gateshead on October 3 and Wrexham on October 17.

A spokesman from the Football Conference said: “The Football Conference confirm that Grays Athletic, of the Blue Square Premier, has suffered the deduction of two points and been fined a total of £500 in relation to five breaches involving the fielding of ineligible players in contravention of Conference Rule 6.8.

“The adjustment to the league table will take immediate effect.

“The Football Conference has been unable to finalise this matter until now, due to appeal procedures evoked by Grays Athletic, which the club formally withdrew from the Football Association as of April 7.”
