Twirlers living the TV dream

FIVE Thurrock twirlers are taking part in the Britain’s Got Talent auditions.

The girls are part of the Thurrock Belettes and are competing under the name Twirlers Unite for the TV talent competition.

Corringham sisters Lacie, ten, and Ellie Duthie, 15, Shannon Butler, 15, Abbie Newton, 13, and Laura Little, 28 are hoping to go far in the auditions.

The girls are competing for the England twirling team with seven other girls from across the country.

The girls recently performed at the first live auditions at the Birmingham Hippodrome and got three yes’s from judges Amanda Holden, Piers Morgan and Louis Walsh, who was standing in for Simon Cowell who was ill.

Proud mum of Lacie and Ellie, Danielle Duthie, 35 of Fortin Way, Corringham, said: “It was Britain’s Got Talent who got in touch with the England squad because they have never had a team of twirlers on the show before.

“Ellie spoke to the judges and she was a bit nervous. After they performed Amanda Holden said 100 per cent yes, Louis Walsh said he had never seen anything like it before and it was amazing.

“It costs a fortune to keep the girls in the sport but it is really worth it, it is a real talent. It keeps them fit and healthy. I am really proud of them all and hope they go far in the show.”

Twirling is a combination of dancing and throwing batons in the air.

The girls are set to appear in front of the judges again today (Friday, February 12), at the Vaudeville Theatre in central London. If they are successful they will be through to the live finals.
