A POWER firm worker was bashed over the head and robbed by a gang of thugs.
Now detectives fear the crooks could use the man’s stolen company ID cards to con their way into people’s homes.
The attack happened when the 48-year-old man, who works for power firm E.ON, was approached by three men in Lansdowne Road, Tilbury.
They hit the victim over the head and punched him before stealing his two E.ON ID cards and Pentablet computer worth a total of £2,000.
Det Sgt Dave Bishop of Tilbury CID said: “The victim was wearing a bright orange E.ON jacket at the time, so he would have been noticeable to passers-by.
“We are urging members of the public to have a think, and if they did witness this or saw the suspects in the area, please call us.
“We are obviously concerned that these thieves may use the ID to con their way into people’s homes, so remember to always check ID thoroughly, and call the company if you are in doubt of the validity.”
A spokesman for E.ON added: "The majority of our advisers wear E.ON uniforms and drive E.ON vans and all employees visiting customers’ homes will have a pass which should be clearly visible.
“If any customer is concerned about the authenticity of an adviser, they should call the free phone number on the back of the card to again reassurance before they allow anyone into their home.”
The robbers were all men and one wore a dark top.
His two accomplices wore light-colured tops and one of the men is described as being very tall.
Witnesses to the robbery, which happened at 5pm on Wednesday, February 3, can contact detectives at Tilbury CID on 0300 3334444
