Tot on the mend as parents seek payout

AN investigation has started into why a baby girl’s eye was accidentally glued shut in a hospital.

The parents of 13-month-old Kaysie Glover, of Lodge Lane, Grays, faced an anxious wait to find out if any permanent damage had been done to their daughter.

Mother Lucie Stow, 26, said: “We took Kaysie to Moorfields Eye Hospital in London last Wednesday and they were pleased with how the eye was healing.

“We were told the front of Kaysie’s eye is much better and we need to go back in four weeks so they can thoroughly check it. They cannot do it yet as her eye is still not fully repaired.”

Last week Lucie and partner Luke Glover, 25, told how Kaysie’s eye had medical glue put in it during treatment for a cut at Orsett Minor Injuries Unit.

The family was visited on Friday afternoon by two people from the complaints department of NHS South West Essex.

Miss Stow added: “They apologised about what happened, but it is not their place to.

“We asked for three things from the investigation. To make sure another child does not go through the pain Kaysie has, that more precautions are taken with the medical glue and for compensation.”

Brid Johnson, deputy managing director for NHS South West Essex Community Services, said: “We take such incidents very seriously and are carrying out a full investigation into the incident.”

Unfortunately we live in a compensation culture world, what happend was a terrific accident which could have resulted in partial blindness for the little girl, something that any parent would be very concerned about.

I don't personaly agree with the act of claiming compensation but sometimes it is the only way of redressing the balance of the incident
