AN application for 551 new homes in Aveley was withdrawn by developers today.
Springfield Consortium pulled the plug on the application, for green belt land off Romford Road, hours before Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation was due to make a decision on it.
The plans comprised 220 three bed houses, 110 four bed houses, 28 two bed houses, as well as 138 two bed flats and 55 one bed flats.
Alongside the residential side of the application were plans for shops, financial and professional services, restaurants and cafes, as well as drinking establishments and takeaway outlets.
A surgery and space for residential parking were also included.
Officers at Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation had recommended that the planning committee refuse the application.
Thurrock Council also registered its objection to the proposal as it is on green belt land.
Springfield Consortium is free to submit another application, either entirely new plans or a copy of the application that it has just withdrawn.
