Man jailed for stabbing friend

A MAN who repeatedly stabbed his friend following a drunken row has been jailed for 18 months.

Steven Emmerman, 26, stabbed Dominic Lewis six times during the frenzied attack in Richmond Road, Grays.

Mr Lewis received wounds to the stomach, abdomen, back, armpit and buttocks Judge Ian Graham warned him never to carry a weapon in public again before handing down the sentence at Basildon Crown Court on Friday (Dec 18).

Emmerman and Mr Lewis worked together at DHL in West Thurrockat the time, and had been on a six-hour drinking session at the Rileys snooker club in Clarence Road, Grays when tempers flared at the end of the night on June 17 last year.

Both had downed pints of lager and Aftershock before leaving the club.

The pair were walking to Mr Lewis’s home in Richmond Road when they started brawling in the street.

Worried neighbours called the police when they spotted the fight in the street shortly after midnight.

Officers turned up, but the brawl continued after they left.

Mr Lewis returned home covered in blood about two hours later.

He was treated for stab wounds to his stomach, abdomen, back, armpit and buttocks at Basildon Hospital later that morning.

Mr Lewis said he was too drunk to remember why they were fighting, but thought it might have been because Emmerman put his arm around him to help him walk home, even tough he said he did not want any help.

Emmerman, of Castle Road, Grays, denied a charge of unlawful wounding but was found guilty by a jury following a trial in October.
