A MAN who lost an arm in a railway accident raised more than £1,300 for the Help for Heroes charity, by taking part in the London Triathlon.
Former soldier Danny Green, 33, joined more than 13,000 competitors for the event, which will raise an estimated £3million for charity.
He completed the triathlon, which comprises swimming, cycling and running, in one hour 44 minutes, and hopes to eventually raise £2,500 once all the sponsorship money has been collected.
Danny, of Dock Road, Grays, said: “The whole experience was very nerve-racking at the start. I also met some other para-triathletes who really welcomed me and put me at ease.
“As I stood by the water, I still had my fears and doubts over whether I could complete it, but they all disappeared once I jumped in the Thames.
“I realised I had to enjoy it and do my best.
“Crossing the finish line made the hard work worthwhile.”
