FREECYCLING household goods is growing in popularity, according to Thurrock West Freecycle.
Membership of Freecycle has reached two million nationwide as the public demonstrate their commitment to re-using and recycling household goods rather than dumping them.
Freecycle is an internet network which links people who have household items they don’t want, to people who need them.
There is no membership fee and the only rules are items have to be legal, appropriate for all ages, and given free.
People in Thurrock have discovered the benefits of using Freecycle, to save money as well as the environment and the local group now has 2942 members.
Jules Greaves from Thurrock West Freecycle said: “Popular items are furniture, “white” goods like washing machines, fridges, microwaves, toys, prams, computers, stereos, gardening and DIY tools.
“Everyone has unwanted possessions and people say it is very satisfying to pass something on to someone who needs it rather than throw it away.”
