CHILDREN in South Ockendon will benefit from innovative new play equipment thanks to Thurrock’s Playbuilder scheme.
The solar powered equipment was installed in Dilkes Park and officially launched by Thurrock MP Andrew Mackinlay on Saturday December 13.
The Playbuilder scheme, which will see 25 fun play areas built by the year 2011, is guided by the Government’s Fair Play strategy to create safe play places. The NEOS 360, developed by Playworld Systems is the new innovative play equipment.
It is solar powered and interactive and can be described as a computer game in the Park.
Cabinet member for Children’s Services, Councillor Sue Macpherson, said: “The Friends of Dilkes Park worked through the summer months to find out how the children wanted to play in the park and I went along - on a very damp Sunday morning in October - for a trial of the equipment which was a great success.
“A big thank-you to the Friends, Thurrock Play Network, South Ockendon Community Forum, members of the Play Partnership and also the Thurrock Council team for achieving a really quick turnaround from consultation to delivery of this item.”
