A NEW community facility - which was lifted in by crane - has officially been opened.
The new community house in Seabrooke Rise, Grays, was opened yesterday.
A week prior to this it had created quite a spectacle when being lifted into the ball court by crane to avoid damging surrounding trees and fences.
Labour ward councillor Carl Morris and councillor Tunde Ojetola were present as Grays Riverside Community Association member Taff Edwards cut the ribbon to unveil the £100,000 facility.
The three-year, £116,000 project - run by the Grays Riverside Community Association - will provide a wide range of services.
Thurrock Council’s Cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Tunde Ojetola, said: "I am sure the new hall will encourage more people to become actively involved in the community."
Funded through the Environmental Improvement Fund, the Community House will be financed through housing revenue and has received support from the Thameside Community Forum.
Among the wide range of facilities will be: a parent and toddler group, smoking stop, an after school club, an expanded arts and crafts club, a youth club, cooking club and sports equipment.
