Skills centre is online

A NEW skills and IT centre has opened in the Howbury Centre, Slade Green.

Residents had been pressing for a drop-in style facility and were consulted fully on the format.

The centre will offer a variety of courses from computer skills and key skills courses to aromatherapy.

It is offering taster classes so people can try out courses and will also try to meet requests for specialist courses when facilities allow.

The centre also has a creche where learners can leave their children while they are in class.

The project is a collaboration between the adult education college, Bexley College, Bexley Council and the Slade Green Community Forum.

The centre also attracted the attention of the Learning and Skills Council, which sent its chief executive, John Harwood, to open it.

“The centre is a very important development and, with partnership projects notoriously difficult to get off the ground, the achievements of everyone involved should be praised,” he said.
