STORM Bronagh’s strong winds are expected to batter Sussex tonight, posing a “danger to life”.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for wind and says people should expect damage to buildings, falling tree branches, flying debris, and large waves.

The warning for Thursday evening lasts into tomorrow morning and comes as the storm wreaks havoc across the north of Britain and Ireland.

Brighton Beach Patrol issued its own weather warning tonight.

It said: "We are expecting dangerous weather this evening on Brighton's seafront with 55mph+ winds and up to 10ft waves.

"Please advise all friends and family and new students to keep off the seafront as these dangerous conditions can cause serious injury or even death. Drink Responsibly, and enjoy your night."

Disruption is expected to travel services including road, rail, ferries, and planes, with people being told to expect longer journey times and cancellations.

People in Sussex are also being advised that power cuts may occur, with the potential of other services such as mobile phone coverage being affected.

The storm is expected to last between 6.00pm tonight until 9.00am tomorrow and with wind speeds of over 30mph.

Another weather warning has been issued for Sunday evening as less powerful, but still substantial, winds hit the coast and bring with them the chance of travel disruption.

Storm Bronagh comes just after Storm Ali, which brought winds of up to 100mph to the British Isles.

The first named storm of the season killed two people and injured many others.
