POLICE have released an image of a man they want to trace after a woman was raped in south Essex.

The victim, a woman aged in her 30s, was approached by a man in Grays town centre during the afternoon of Sunday, September 16.

She was then followed down towards Kilvert Wharf, where she was attacked just before 3.10pm.

A member of the public intervened and the man ran off in the direction of Argent Street.

The man was described as being between 60 and 70 years old and wore blue jeans with a blue fleece and black body warmer.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 101 and speak to the Grays Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team quoting incident number 766 of 16/09.

Update: A man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.
