Thurrock’s newest district commander has set out her plan for the area as she returns to where she started her career 19 years ago.

Chief Inspector Claire Talbot joined Essex Police in November 1999 and worked in various roles in South Ockendon, Corringham, Grays and Tilbury.

She then worked with the child abuse investigation and major crime teams before becoming the Chief Constable’s staff officer.

Chief Insp Talbot, who is an experienced detective, then joined the serious economic crime unit investigating cybercrime and money laundering in Essex and Kent.

She moved back to Thurrock in June, initially as temporary district commander until her promotion in July.

She said: “I started my career in Thurrock, which is why I am really excited to be here again.

“It feels great to be back as there is something special about wherever you started your career.”

Her priorities include protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities, particularly those who are being exploited or abused behind closed doors as these are crimes that will not always be reported.

She added: “Tackling violent crime is a key focus for me and my team, especially domestic abuse and crime connected to gangs.

“I am also acutely aware that repeated anti-social behaviour can really affect people’s quality of life, and so this continues to be a priority for us and other partners.

“I also encourage people to please keep reporting the crime and problems you’re experiencing so we can build up information to identify those responsible.

“Thurrock is a great place to live and work and we and our partners are committed to keeping it that way.

“We can only do this as a community so please do come and talk to my officers at any of our Coffee with Cops events and local meetings.”
