THE Orsett Show is returning this weekend – and with a jam-packed line up of events its set to be bigger and better than ever.

Celebrating its 112th year, the Orsett Show is one of the oldest one-day country shows in England.

Set across 30 acres of farmland, some 300 companies, schools, organisations and charities will come together to promote their businesses, sell products, inform and network in a fun-filled family day – which was attended by just under 11,000 people in 2016.

Thurrock Council is again sponsoring the Orsett Show Stage and the final of the 2018 Orsett Show’s Got Talent will take place.

There is something for everyone at this year’s show. The main arena will host shire horses, dog displays, steam engines, farming through the years, vintage tractors and hobbies and handicrafts, horticulture and an appearance from the Essex Beekeepers Association.

The Horse Section will, as always, be very busy with its various competitions.

Jeremy Finnis, 2018 Orsett Show President, said: “I have been involved with the Show for some 25 years, serving on its Agriculture Committee, as Sponsorship Secretary and as Vice Chairman.

“My wife Diana and late father in law Robert Cole have been prime movers of the show for many years, and there was never any doubt that I would be closely involved.

“It has been a privilege to work with the dedicated team over the years in putting on this fantastic local show.

“I think it is important that everyone – especially children – knows a little of what happens in the real countryside and how their food is grown.

“The Orsett Show has been doing this in its own small way for over 100 years, and long may it continue.”

The event will run from 9am until 5pm on Saturday.

Children can attend for free, while adult tickets cost £11.50.
