A MAN has admitted causing the motorbike crash which led to a young woman losing her leg.

The crash took place in June last year when two motorbikes crashed into each other in the Manorway, Corringham, at around 9.15pm.

One of the riders, Bethany Bright, 21, of Canvey, was left with catastrophic injuries which meant her left leg had to be amputated.

The bone came out of her left wrist and she was told it was just as bad as her leg.

She had temporary nerve damage in her neck and couldn’t move her arm for two months.

Beth also suffered a collapsed lung and had broken bones in her back.

The 21-year-old, who works for Calor Gas on Canvey and was a keen motorcyclist, was sedated at the scene before being taken to the Royal London Hospital for specialist treatment.

A police investigation was launched after the crash in an attempt to find the rider responsible for the crash.

On June 12 this year, Essex Police confirmed they had made five arrests in connection with the incident.

Billy Boom, 24, of New Zealand Way, Rainham, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a crash, failing to report a crash, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving with no insurance.

Appearing at Basildon Crown Court on August 2, Boom pleaded guilty to all offences at a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Four other men have been charged with assisting an offender and have denied the charges.

Nicholas Morris, 23, of Kings Park, Canvey, Michael Holmes, 27, of Penrith Road, Romford, Daniel Trott, 26, of Lambs Lane South, Rainham, and Sonny Waites, 19, of Upminster Road North, Rainham, are all due to stand trial at the same court on February 19 next year.

Boom will be sentenced after the conclusion of the trial.

He has been handed an interim driving disqualification until the sentencing hearing.

Beth has since undertaken major rehabilitation work and adjusting to life with a prosthetic leg.
