The Tilbury Docker puppet was in attendance for the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush.

The puppet made his grand entrance at the Tilbury Cruise Terminal on Friday June 22.

He will be heading back to the Cruise Terminal on Saturday 21 July for the Port’s Open day and will lead a procession the Port.

The Tilbury Docker will walk from Tilbury station to the Cruise Terminal accompanied by carnival dancers from Elite Dance Academy, BB’s Dance Academy, and Thurrock 100 walkers.

At the Cruise Terminal, the Docker will take part in performances to accompany Chilean arts organisation, Teatro Container’s La Cocina Publica, the public kitchen will cater for 200 people at a community feast.

The community feast will feature recipes gathered from the local Tilbury community through a series of workshops run by Kinetika and Teatro Container.

It will also mark the launch of Kinetika’s new two year project Kitchen Table which aims to bring people together through shared memories and traditions of food.

The Dance the Docker to the Port walk is the 13th of this year’s Thurrock 100 Recipes walks. The Thurrock 100 walking festival runs from 7 July to 22 July and features walks in Southend and Thurrock plus routes in Dartford and Gravesend. The walks are free and open to all.
