The Ortu Sixth Form College in Corringham has been given a “good” rating by Ofsted inspectors.

Inspectors found that the sixth form has improved since the last inspection.

The report read: "The leadership and management of the sixth form are effective in promoting student’s high expectations and positive self-esteem.

"These factors help to ensure that students succeed.”

Sue Weston, director of the Ortu sixth Form, said: “We at the Ortu 6th Form are proud to receive the acknowledgement that ‘teaching is consistently good’ here and that ‘students in the 6th Form make good progress from their starting points'."

Clive Stokes, principal of Ortu Gable Hall, said: “Students are 'happy and feel well supported and safe' and 'act as good role models for younger pupils'.

"It feels very rewarding that this has finally been recognised."

“I would like to extend my thanks to the teachers, governors, parents and students for this great achievement,” said Mr Harman, chair of governors at Ortu Gable Hall.

Councillor James Halden, portfolio holder for Education and health said: “This is a great result for Gable Hall Sixth Form.

“It goes to show what can be achieved with determined leadership and skilled staff who I know work tirelessly for the benefit of all its students. With a strong student council, fantastic results and an impressively varied curriculum, this result really does give a true reflection of the fantastic provision here in Corringham.”
