Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group will hold the second of its free events to provide expert advice and information for people recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in partnership with Diabetes UK.

The ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ will be held on Friday 29 June at The Beehive Resource Centre, West Road, Grays.

The one-day event aims to help people from the Thurrock area who have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in the last few years.

It will provide them with essential information they need to live well with the condition. People who have been living with Type 2 diabetes for longer but need to brush up on their knowledge of the condition are also welcome to attend.

Type 2 diabetes is a serious, lifelong condition which can be treated with diet, exercise, medication and/or insulin.

Healthcare professionals will provide information on healthcare and the services available to people with Type 2 diabetes in the area.

They will also advise on avoiding health complications associated with diabetes, such as heart disease, kidney failure, stroke, amputation and blindness, through good management of the condition.

There will be sessions on how to maintain a healthy diet, keeping feet healthy and become more confident managing diabetes day-to-day.

There will also be an Ask the Experts section and an opportunity to meet other local people living with Type 2 diabetes.

Kehinde Adeniji, senior commissioning manager and planned/unplanned care lead for NHS Thurrock CCG said: “Following our successful event last year, we wanted to give more people with Type 2 Diabetes the chance to get together and meet the healthcare professionals that provide care and support in Thurrock.

“Members from the local Diabetes UK Support Group will be there to offer advice and guidance.”
