LUCKY children from two primary schools visited the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London.

Year 5 children from both Tilbury Pioneer Academy and the Gateway Free Primary School recently visited SOAS for the launch trip of The Scholars Programme, organised by The Brilliant Club.

The Brilliant Club is an award-winning charity that exists to increase the number of pupils from under-represented backgrounds progressing to highly-selective universities.

The pupils were given a tour around the campus and experienced a University-style tutorial.

They will be exploring ‘What are rights?’ over the next few months in school.

And the topic will see them produce an assignment at the end of the project to show what they have learned, before graduating at the end of the summer.

The day out was deemed a huge success, with teachers and pupils speaking out in support of the innovative Brilliant Club.

Both schools are part of the Gateway Learning Community Trust. The trust is a ground-breaking collaboration between primary and secondary academies in Thurrock, working together to transform learning and teaching to meet the need of every young person in their care.

Their mission is to offer opportunities to develop as high achieving, resilient, healthy, aspirational, caring and fulfilled members of society.
