Thurrock Council has officially launched this year’s local election campaign.

The poll will be held on Thursday, May 3 and the Notice of Election was published on Friday, March 23.

Nominations to stand as a candidate for the local elections – which will be held in 16 of Thurrock’s 20 wards – close at 4pm on Friday 6 April.

Polling cards will be delivered to eligible electors between Friday March 23 and Monday April 2 and will give details of where the local polling station will be, the times polling stations are open, and how to apply for postal or proxy votes. 

Four wards – Chafford and North Stifford, Corringham and Fobbing, East Tilbury and Stanford le Hope West – have no local council elections on that day.

In each election only a third of councillors in the borough stand which means these two-councillor wards will not be contested this time.

If you have not yet registered to vote you have until midnight on 17 April to apply. You can apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or by calling 01375 652 816.

Anyone who requires a postal vote should contact the elections office on 01375 652816.  The deadline for applications to vote by post is 5pm on Wednesday 18 April.
