A Grays-based adult learning centre has been shortlisted for a national adult learning provider award for the second year in a row.

Thurrock Adult Community College (TACC) has been highlighted for the Times Educational Supplement Further Education (TesFE) 2018 Adult and Community Learner Provider Award, held in association with the Education and Training Foundation. The awards celebrate excellent and innovative practice across the further education sector and are now in their seventh year.

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony which takes place on February 23, 2018, in London.

The College has consistently good achievement rates and an exceptionally broad provision for a small Adult and Community Learning provider, providing a safe, stimulating and respectful environment to provide adult learners with the skills to improve their career prospects, get into work or learn a new skill/hobby.

James Halden, responsible for education and health, said: “TACC has worked with local employers including the Port of Tilbury, provided a virtual course for a large care provider with an agile workforce and very recently, delivered a dedicated programme to facilitate recruitment for Amazon’s distribution centre, which resulted in over 60% of learners getting into employment, with many others deciding to continue with their lifelong learning journey to gain new skills.

“I am delighted that TACC are one of eight providers to be shortlisted, from a record number of nominations this year and I can’t wait to hear how they get on.”
