Part of the M25 has been closed following a crash in which a woman became trapped in her vehicle.

The busy circular motorway has been closed in the clockwise direction between junction 28 for the A12 and junction 13 for the A13.

This follows a crash involving two vehicles on the this stretch of the M25 which happened at around 2:46pm today near Brentwood.

A woman became trapped in her car and was released by the Fire Service at around 4pm.

She is currently in the care of the ambulance service.

The crash caused the two middle lanes to be blocked which later resulted in the motorway being closed so that emergency services could deal with the incident.

All traffic between Junction 28 and where the crash took place is currently being held as emergency services try to clear it.

Queues are stretching back as far as junction 27 for the M11.

Traffic is being diverted at junction 28 and motorists going towards the Dartford Crossing can re-join the motorway at junction 30 from the A13.

A spokesman for Essex Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision on the M25 between junctions 28-29.

"Fire crews worked with paramedic to help release one female casualty who was trapped in the vehicle. Three lanes of the motorway were closed so emergency service workers could deal with the incident safely.

"The casualty was released by 4pm and left in the care of the Ambulance Service."

UPDATE: All lanes opened at around 4:58pm
