Four fire engines rushed to the A13 after a car ended up sideways in a ditch.

The driver was left trapped in his car, which left the road on the Manorway junction between Stanford-le-Hope and Horndon on the Hill early yesterday morning.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 8:15am and managed to remove the man from his car at around 8:40am.

The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambualce Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at 8.18am today on the A13 near Standord Le Hope.

"An ambulance and ambulance officer attended the scene.

"One patient was treated for minor injuries and was taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further treatment."
