To mark Black History Month, Thurrock African Group held its first “Ankara Festival” event at the Civic Hall, Blackshots, highlighting the contributions and achievements of Africans in Thurrock.

The Ankara Festival event showcased top rising talents from fashion, dance and entertainment.

On the night, local business owners had the opportunity to promote their emerging brands from textiles to beauty products.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Thurrock, Councillor Tunde Ojetola, his wife, and councillors Bukky Okunade, who is also the chairperson of Thurrock African Group, Oliver Gerrish, Jane Pothercary and Tony Fish.

The lively evening was filled with entertainment and laughter from comedian Bunmi West and African drumming and dance from Julius Blankson of Step Free Dance.

Guests indulged in a range of delicious African dishes made by Kevtom Catering Services.

The main attraction of the night was the Ankara African fashion show including three main designers: Auszzy Couture Fashion, Mimiz Couture Fashion and Tobams Colours.

Councillor Okunade has declared that the Ankara Festival event will continue in Thurrock due to the positive feedback she received.
