South Essex College is launching a supported internship programme and looking for local businesses to help support young people.

The supported internship scheme is aimed at students who have additional needs and are ready for the world of work.

Paul Butler, Head of Employer Engagement at the College, said: “Are you a supportive local employer?

"Would you like to give a student the support and chance to succeed in the work place? Then we would love to hear from you!”

The programme is designed to assist students take the next step into sustainable employment, by working through a set of employability training sessions in the classroom and a significant work experience placement with a supportive employer.

Each learner will have a Job Coach and specific support plan, detailing all the strategies that a student would need to succeed in a work environment.

The Job Coach will work closely with the student and employer, ensuring both parties benefit from a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Students will also be studying at the College to improve their maths and English skills, along with working on an enterprise activity tailored to targets that the employer would like them to work on.

If you can assist the College in helping a local young person with additional needs make that next step, please contact Paul.Butler@southessex.ac.uk
