Officers from across the county received commendations from Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh during a special ceremony at our HQ in Chelmsford today.

Family, friends and special guests including Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, looked on as the officers received commendations, one of the highest accolades a Chief Constable can give.
Officers from Grays Local Policing Team, Basildon CID and the Dog Section were commended for their dedication and commitment during a challenging incident.

In December 2015, Inspector Anna Granger, PS Lee Stannard, PS Sara Dean, PS Grant Jermain, Pc Andy Bullock, Pc Luke Pitchford, Pc Mark Potter, Pc Paul Harrison and Pc Ryan Dean attended an incident in the Thurrock area where a man was self-harming.

The officers had to force entry, disarm the man and then went onto commence emergency first aid. Sadly the man died from his injuries.

Addressing the group, Chief Constable Stephen Kavanagh said: “These ceremonies mean an awful lot to us; we don’t get as many opportunities as we’d like to say a sincere thank you to you all for the remarkable things you do to keep the people of Essex safe.

"The awarding of commendations is one of the highest honours a Chief Constable can give and is symbolic of the brilliant work that takes place across this county every day.

"These ceremonies aren’t just to say thank you to our officers but to say thank you to their supportive loved ones too.”

Roger Hirst, Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “I am here today on behalf of the people of Essex to say thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty.

"I know the public have a great amount of admiration for what you do for them. It’s great to be able to say thank you in person.”
