Thurrock Council has started checking external classing on properties as part of its enhanced fire safety checks.
The works, which began on Monday, involve specialist teams completing ground-level visual assessments followed by a detailed review of the cladding system at specific points.
The detailed review phase will mean operatives will be seen abseiling down the sides of the tower blocks.
Residents living in high rises will not need to vacate their property, but will need to close windows when the work is taking place.
Rob Gledhill, leader of the council and councillor for housing, said: “I’m pleased Thurrock Council is – rightly - taking all precautionary measures when it comes to residents’ safety.
“There is no need to worry – we are not aware of any risk, and all the information we have submitted to Government has put us at the bottom of the risk list.
"However, if we can triple check and give added reassurance to residents, then we should and we will. As soon as the results are known, we will share them with residents.”
