A 90-year-old man has completed his fourth cycle marathon for charity and raised an impressive £26,000.

Starting and ending in Blackshot, Stan Wall did a 21 mile cycle around Thurrock to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Since doing these marathons four years ago, Mr Wall has raised £48,000 in total but this year was particularly successful for him having earnt more than 50% of that total figure.

Impressed with him was Help for Heroes, who awarded him with a special badge for his contribution to their cause.

Undettered by his age, Mr Wall cycles every day; so this marathon was easy for him.

He said: "I didn't train, I just went out and rode my bike. What do you need training for?"

Mr Wall raised the money by door-knocking and letting people know about his marathon.

He began his annual cycle marathon after his wife died in St Luke's Hospice.

Still active, he assured us that we would be getting on his bike next year and the doing the marathon again.
