Police were called to reports that a woman in her 40s was subjected to a serious sexual assault in Grays between 10pm – 11pm on July 16.
The attack took place at the junction between Grange Road and Clarence Road.
The victim described two men, both white. One was tall and slim with black hair.
The road was closed for four hours while police conducted their search.
House to house enquiries will take place today.
Any witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area is asked to contact the Kent and Essex major crime team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
