London Road, between West Thurrock Way and Mill Lane is set to have two-way traffic lights temporarily in operation to allow for essential works on the gas mains.

The works are set to take place throughout the school summer holiday from Monday July 24 to Friday September 1.

This is the first phase of a programme of works to ensure safe and reliable supply of gas to local residents and businesses.

Cadent and their strategic partner tRIIO will be managing and delivering the works.

The area will be closely monitored at all times and in the event of a serious incident, a temporary Traffic Regulation Order will be implemented via Devonshire Road, A1012, Stifford Interchange, A13, Junction 30, back on to A13 and then on to A126 West Thurrock Way.

Residents will still have access to their properties at all times.

Visitors to intu Lakeside are being advised that there could be longer than usual delays to entering and leaving the shopping centre and retail park.

Brian Little, councillor for Highways and Transport said: “We know that road works can be an inconvenience, but it is really important that these improvements go ahead as they will guarantee a safe and unfailing gas supply for residents in the area.

“Cadent have a strong history of delivering challenging schemes and are well placed managing this project to ensure that there is as minimum disruption to the area as possible.

"Over the last couple of years, there have been 22 unexpected gas leaks which required urgent attention - sometimes without notice. These, along with next year's works, will resolve these ongoing issues."
