FEELING peckish? If so, you have the chance to become the first person to complete the daunting Ogre Burger Challenge at a Basildon pub.

But it is not for the faint-hearted!

The mammoth meal consists of a 5lb burger and 2lb of chips.

Those who wish to take on the eating challenge have one hour to complete it. Participants are allowed to walk about as long as the judges can see and them but the challenge must be competed by one person.

It costs £25, with a £10 deposit and the winner will receive food and drink vouchers worth £100.

The winner will also get their money back and a free T-shirt showing they were the first person to eat the whole meal.

Tracy Scutter, general manager of the Edge, in Town Square, said 140 people have already tried to beat the challenge but nobody has managed to complete it thus far.

She added: “We have had people take on the challenge for various charities, including the Essex Air Ambulance.

“The whole challenge is light-hearted and is quite good fun. People must eat the chips and the burger to complete the challenge.

“Everything is homemade and it is a really tasty burger.

“You can tell after about half an hour if someone is going to manage it or not.

“They get a glazed look in their eyes and it’s game over.

“Anyone that decides to take on the challenge has to do it in front of us and we do a countdown every ten minutes.

“We do believe that someone will complete the whole eating challenge one day, we just haven’t met them yet.”

She added that people often film their friends or relatives taking on the challenge.

It takes a while to make all the ingredients for the eating challenge, meaning that the pub requites about one week’s notice. To find out more or to book call 01268 280 755.
