A MAN has been air lifted to hospital with multiple serious injuries after a crash involving a motorbike and a car in West Thurrock this evening.

The crash, which took place in Mill Lane, near the junction with London Road, at about 6pm and the road was closed in both directions for several hours.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service: "The East of England Ambulance Service Trust was called to a road traffic collision just after 6pm in South Stifford, Grays today.

"Three ambulances, the Herts Air Ambulance and a rapid response vehicle attended and treated a man, in his 40s, with serious multiple injuries to his arm and chest.

"He was flown to Kings College Hospital for further care.

"He is believed to be in a serious condition."

The road has been closed for more than an hour while the site is cleared by the emergency services.

Police officers en route to the scene have described it as a "serious accident".

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while the site was cleared.

A spokesman for the fire service said: "Firefighters were called to assist at the scene of the road traffic collision involving one car and one motorbike.

"Two fire crews from Grays assisted the paramedics and gave first aid to one of the two casualties.

The casualties were left in the care of the Ambulance Sevice by 7pm and the scene was left in the care of the police."

The road was reopened shortly after 11pm.
