YOUNG voters have revealed what they are looking for from their MP ahead of the General Election.

Students are seen as an important part of the election battleground, with parties revealing how they plan to attract young voters.

The Tories are planning to increase the National Living Wage in line with earnings until the end of Parliament.

Thurrock Gazette:

Labour has revealed its pledge to scrap tuition fees and to also bring an end to zero hours contracts.

Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has said schools and colleges will receive a £7 billion spending boost if his party were to get into power. They have also outlined plans to abolish the pay cap on the public sector, which limits pay rises for staff in schools.

Thurrock Gazette:

Ukip say they still want to attract the “brightest and best” students to the UK, including foreign students, but warned that there could not be “an unlimited number of people” coming to study due to the pressures it placed on housing and other infrastructure.

Students living away from home are entitled to register at both their home address and term-time address.

Thurrock Gazette:

However, if you vote at both of these addresses in the General Election you are breaking the law and face a fine of up to £5,000.

If you are not already registered, you can do so by visiting the voter registration website. You have until midnight on Monday.
