THURROCK MP Jackie Doyle-Price has held urgent talks with Prime Minister Theresa May over the Lower Thames Crossing.

It comes following the announcement of the new road linking Essex and Kent.

Option three - a route running from the M25 near North Ockendon, crossing the A13 at Orsett and running north of Chadwell St Mary before reaching the Kent-bound tunnel in East Tilbury - had been selected by the Government.

Ms Doyle-Price insists plans to build a new junction on the M25 must be changed.

She said, “I have been fighting this route since it was first proposed in 2009. This proposed route is too close to people’s homes and I am utterly opposed to the new junction on the M25.

"At the moment it is just a line on a map. It must be changed.

"Having already defeated the proposal for a crossing through Tilbury town and having defeated the proposal for a bridge alongside the Dartford crossing, I am in the spirit of two down, one to go.

"I have advised the Prime Minister that there is real opposition to the route as outlined and that we want change."
