A NEW scheme aiming to improve health and wellbeing in Thurrock has revealed its results.

Social Prescribing, a project from Thurrock Council for Voluntary Services, enables healthcare professionals, such as GPs and nurses, to refer patients to a range of appropriate, local and non-clinical support in the community.

The scheme is being delivered by a cross agency partnership of Thurrock CVS, the Thurrock Clinical Commissioning Group and Thurrock Council with funding coming from the Better Care Fund.

It was launched just before Christmas, and is being trialled at ten G.P. surgeries across Thurrock and has already benefitted more than 70 people.

Dr Bhatt, G.P. of the Sai Medical Practice, said: “At a time when our health services are increasingly stretched this innovative scheme is delivering real and sustainable help and I look forward to seeing the offer expanded so all our surgeries are able to take advantage of this excellent service”
