THURROCK Schools could be facing nearly £10million of funding cuts to its schools over the next four years.

Figures revealed by the National Union of Teachers show that funding is estimated to be cut by nine per cent across the borough, which works out to around £9.98 million, by 2020.

The Government has sparked unprecedented concern among teachers, councils and MPs across the country with its proposed new National Funding Formula.

While the Government says the new formula is meant to introduce a fairer system of distributing the education budget, hundreds of schools say they will be worse off.

Arthur Bugler Primary School, in Corringham is the worst affected school in south Essex, it is expected to lose a staggering 37 per cent of its funding should the formula be introduced.

Estimates show the school will lose £283,805 by 2019/20, which works out to a £677 reduction per pupil.

Every school in Corringham and Stanford-le-Hope is predicted to be facing cuts backs.
