POLICEare renewing their appeal for witnesses following a fatal incident where a man died after lying down on a dark country road.

The road traffic collision happened at around 2.10am, Saturday February 4, in Poynters Lane, Shoebury.

A Ford Fiesta was in collision with a man lying in the road.

Police and the ambulance service attended but sadly the man, who police believe to be Anthony Lewis aged 46 from Tilbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of the collision and we are keen to speak to witnesses or anyone who was in the area at that time.

"Specifically, we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the victim in the general area prior to the collision. 

"He was dressed in dark clothing but was wearing distinctive black Doctor Martin style boots with bright yellow laces."
