As an extra boost to the Clean it, Cut it, Fill it initiative, Thurrock Council is backing a national campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local communities between 3 and 5 March 2017.

The Great British Spring Clean is the UK's largest ever community clear up and Thurrock Council is supporting groups who want to take part.

Pauline Tolson, councillor for the environment, said: "Residents have told us Clean it, Cut it, Fill it – backed with our enforcement initiative – has made many streets and town centres tidier. But litter does remain a problem in Thurrock – which is why we are supporting this event.

"The Great British Spring Clean is about everyone working together to clean up the litter that blights our landscape and communities and we’re delighted to be taking part and bringing people together to tackle an issue that many people care passionately about."

Thurrock Council will provide groups with litter pickers and rubbish bags, as well as collecting what volunteers pick up. Staff from the environment team will be visiting town centres across the borough to help.
