CAN you tell which Essex landmarks are captured in these stunning aerial photos?

Visit Essex has released the collection of pictures to show the diversity of our county - from the rural idylls to our busy coastline and popular tourist attractions.

Renowned as it may be for being relatively flat, Essex still has plenty of high points to enjoy.

Here is our pick of the best:

  • Nestled in a quiet corner of mid Essex is Stow Maries aerodrome. Established during the Great War as a fighter base to protect London from Zeppelin and Gotha bomber raids, Grade 2-listed Stow Maries is today the world’s only surviving complete WW1 aerodrome. The aviation museum puts on regular displays and events to give visitors an authentic feel for life at the airfield 100 years ago.
  • Built by Henry Lord Marney in the 1520s, Layer Marney Tower is a stunning example of 16th Century architecture. Standing at around 80ft, it is also the tallest Tudor gatehouse in the country and climbing its 99 steps rewards you with views that stretch for miles.
  • Looking rather like flames shooting out of a natural firework, the vines at New Hall Vineyards reveal some astonishingly vivid hues. Since 1969 Bill and Sheila Greenwood have been producing award-winning English wines in Purleigh. Wine lovers can take part in tours and tastings at the vineyard and even lease a row of vines to produce their very own red, white, rose or sparkling wine.
  • From the air and shrouded in ice by a winter hoar frost, Cressing Temple Barns in Braintree look frozen in time. Given to the Knights Templar in 1137, the two Grade I-listed barley and wheat barns are
among the oldest timber barns and few surviving Templar buildings in England.
  • Visitors can lose themselves in the Great Maze at Blake House Craft Centre, or soak in history and contemplate life at St Peter on the Wall chapel at Bradwell on Sea.
  • A leisurely walk through Hadleigh Country Park to the remains of the 14th century Hadleigh Castle offers spectacular views of the Thames Estuary, and a climb to the top of the 86ft Naze Tower at Walton-on-the-Naze affords stunning views for miles across North Essex.
