THE PE department at the Gateway Academy, Tilbury had the pleasure of welcoming Theo McIntosh, former Judo British Champion, to the Academy.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the school has worked alongside Sky Sports and to be fortunate enough to receive a visit from a Sky Sports mentor to work with students.

Theo worked with the Year 10 football team in order to develop team cohesion as well as looking at the key areas to be successful.

The boys had a fantastic time from start to finish and undertook a number of team building activities. They listened well, took an active role in group discussions and were able to apply the six keys to success within a practical setting.

Matt Smith, PE Teacher, said “This is a once in a lifetime experience for the boys to work alongside a world gold medallist Judo champion and find out about what it is like to be a part of Team GB.

Theo was so impressed with the group that he is going to come back in February and provide a Judo workshop. I am so proud with how well the students conducted themselves, it was a pleasure to watch them thrive alongside a sporting legend. We look forward to welcoming Theo back next year.”
