RESIDENTS are being urged to renew their discounts for a river crossing.

Residents from Dartford and Thurrock are being urged to renew their membership of the scheme that saves at least £2.30 per crossing.

Around 20,000 residents need to renew their Dart Charge Local Resident Scheme accounts between now and December in order to continue to receive discounts.

Letters or emails are being sent to all account holders explaining what they need to do.

Renewing is easy and can be done online, via email, post or by on the telephone. Dart Charge has put extra support in place to make this renewal process as quick and easy as possible.

Customers can check their renewal date online or by calling Dart Charge.

Sarah Green, Highways England’s head of dart charge service said: It’s great that more Dartford and Thurrock residents than ever before are taking advantage of the discounts available to use the Dartford Crossing.

She added: "Over the next few months almost 20,000 residents need to renew their accounts and they will be sent advice well in advance explaining how to do this.

"I strongly encourage people to follow these instructions and renew their accounts as soon as possible to ensure they continue to benefit from the discounts."

People living in Dartford and Thurrock can pay £20 a year for unlimited crossings on the Dartford Crossing, or alternatively pay £10 a year for 50 crossings, with additional crossings charge at 20p each.

Around 47,200 people have resident accounts, 18,000 more than prior to the introduction of Dart Charge.
