Applications are now open for parents and carers of children entering Year 7 in September 2017.

Secondary schools across the borough will be receiving their new intake of students next year.

A spokesman for Thurrock Council said it was important applications were in on time for them to be considered.

The deadline for parents to apply for their children to attend the secondary school of their choice is October 31.

Parents applying for secondary school places for 2017 have until that date to submit their preferences.

Those received after that date will be treated as late applications – which will mean there is a far less chance of being offered a place at preferred schools.

Councillor James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education, said: “With so many good schools in the borough, I am sure parents will feel like they are spoilt for choice. However, many will want to send their children to a school close to where they live.

“It is vital forms are submitted before the deadline and are completed fully. Only putting one preference instead of listing them all does not improve your chances at all. I encourage parents to also consider travel arrangements early and contact the council should they have any queries.”

Applications can now be made online through Thurrock Council’s My Account.
