A VAN driver has died following a crash in queuing traffic on the A13 in Thurrock.

Police were initially called to the road, at the junction with the A1089 Dock Approach Road in Tilbury, at 10.20pm yesterday with reports of a crash on the Southend-bound lane.

Thee crash involved an Audi TT, a Fiat 500 and a stationary lorry. The ambulance and fire services were also called to the scene.

The incident caused a tailback of traffic for approximately a mile.

A Ford Transit van was driving towards the tailback and was in collision with a stationary articulated lorry at about 11.50pm.

The van driver, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Southend-bound side of the A13 was closed between the A1012 roundabout and the A1089 roundabout while the scene was cleared and forensic examinations were carried out.

It reopened at about 7.10am today.
