A Stanford-le-Hope legal advisor is in the final runnings for Miss Great Britain after winning the Miss Cambridge title.

Sophia Amelia Richards, 23, said she needs the public’s votes to make it to the finals of Miss Great Britain later on this month.

Ms Richards, who lives in Rectory Road, said winning Miss Cambridge “meant the world” to her as she had “suffered with mental illness and self esteem issues all her life.”

She added: “I hope to use my title to raise awareness surrounding mental health issues, as I have suffered from mental illness all my life.

"I also hope to bring positivity back to pageantry. Miss Great Britain has had its fair share of bad press recently and I hope to be the positive role model that the competition needs.”

Ms Richards added she had already been fundraising for the charity Global’s Make Some Noise campaign with a sponsored skydive she undertook on July 22.

The Miss Great Britain finals will be held at the Athena in Leicester on September 26.
