Thurrock students celebrated this week after an “impressive” 98 per cent passed their A levels last Thursday.

The figures near match the national average pass rate at 98.1 per cent.

Across the borough, one in five this year achieved an A* or A grade, whilst 40 per cent achieved A* to C grades.

A slight fall from last year was recorded for academy sixth form students, when 100 per cent of Thurrock academy sixth form students passed their A levels.

Stanford-le-Hope students are celebrating after they joined the Harris Academy in celebrating a 100 per cent A level pass rate.

The Stanford and Corringham Sixth Form Centre bucked the trend nationally for a slight fall in grades at 98.1 per cent, with a 100 per cent pass rate.

Almost half of the students at the Corringham centre achieved A*, A or B grades.

In the west of the borough, The Ockendon Academy and Studio School students achieved a 93 per cent pass rate and nearly 50% gained A*, A or B grades.

At Harris Academy Chafford Hundred, all entries across the 27 subjects on offer achieved pass marks, with 52 per cent achieving A* to B grades.

Palmer’s College maintained an impressive pass rate with 20 subjects gaining 100% pass rate.

Ormiston Park Academy also celebrated their best results in vocational qualifications with more students than ever achieving distinction grades and 96 per cent gaining a pass grade or equivalent.

Councillor James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education, welcomed the good news.

Mr Halden said: “I would like to congratulate all our students on the excellent exam results attained this year.

“These successes are the result of teamwork between students and everyone who teaches and works within the education sector.”

He added: “I want to wish the students who received their results today every success in their future studies and careers.”
