SCHOOL is pretty much out for the summer so there’s plenty of events and things to do. Here’s a round-up of what’s happening in the local area.

FUSED – The Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus is five years old so celebrate with the team at FUSED 2016. This large-scale fifth birthday will be held at the Civic Hall, in Grays, on Sunday, July 24.

The chorus will showcase repertory from their five years of work, as well as performing the premiere of I Claim the Sky, a new commission for Thurrock devised by John Barber and Hazel Gould with local Thurrock schools and the community. Find out more roh.org.uk

At Chafford Gorges there’s a whole host of events taking place from now and throughout the summer holidays.

Children can take part in pond dipping, bug hunting as well as attend a Pirates of the Gorge event.

Simply solve the pirate trail and find the treasure and get back to the centre to pan for gold. Alternatively, why not try some family fishing, Further details at essexwt.org.uk

If you’ve not visited the Essex Fire Museum (behind the fire station) in Hogg Lane, Grays, make sure you do this summer.

It’s an entertaining day out for all the family, including a museum trail, arts ‘n’ crafts sessions, the chance to sit in a vintage fire engine and even squirt water using a real fire hose.

Dates include July 28, August 10 and further dates through the holidays. No need to book. essex-fire.gov.uk/events
