Marie Curie volunteers hosted their first ever Blooming Great Tea Party recently to raise money for the charity.

The tea party took place at the South Ockendon Library where guests could enjoy home made cake, tea and a raffle.

In just a few hours, South Ockendon residents pulled together £107.50 for the Marie Curie Nurses in Essex.

Raffle prizes were donated from local business including Jones Meat Market, Bargain Booze, Elite Tanning and Beauty and cakes from Derry Avenue Tesco.

The funds raised will go to help Marie Curie Nurses provide more free care to people living with a terminal illness in their own homes in Ockendon.

Rose Bloomfield, Community Fundrasier for Marie Curie in Essex said: "I couldn’t think of a better excuse for a catch up with friends over a cuppa while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.”
