A TROUPE of choral singers promise to take the audience on a mythological journey in the annual summer concert next month.

This year’s Thurrock Choral Society’s Summer Concert, to be held at Thameside School Hall, Manor Road on Sunday, July 3, boasts a rendition of Handel’s musical drama Semele, and much more.

Sandra Wilkes, the society’s chairman, said the group is eagerly awaiting their latest, “richly rewarding” performance.

She explained: “We are delighted to be performing this notable work and are looking forward to welcoming our wonderful soloists and trio, all of whom have successful, professional careers in London and further afield.

“The evening promises to deliver a very high standard of singing and musicianship in comfortable and welcoming surroundings.

“If past concerts are any guide, the audience will experience a richly rewarding evening’s entertainment.”

Semele, a seminal operatorio that seamlessly blends together opera and chorus, is a tantalising tale of mortals and gods, love and lust, ambition and deceit.

Delivered under the baton of musical director Crispin Lewis, the choir will be accompanied by the Bridgetower Trio – made up of violin, piano and cello.

Wine, juice and nibbles will be available in the interval, alongside a raffle with a selection of prizes.

Parking will be available.

Tickets – which cost £8, concessions £7, with under 16s being free – are available by calling 01375 377640.
