A new Ofsted Monitoring visit to Hassenbrook Academy has taken the school out of special measures.

Hassenbrook Academy is “fit for purpose” say Ofsted inspectors, following their latest Special Measures Monitoring visit on May 24 and 25.

Dr Sophina Asong, Consultant Executive Headteacher said they were “delighted” with the Inspector’s report following a very “challenging time” for both students and parents.

The good news was written by inspectors as: “Leaders and Managers are taking effective action towards the removal of special measures and that both the Stanford & Corringham Schools’ Trust Statement of Action and the School’s Improvement Plan are fit for purpose”.

The rating of special measures was given to Hassenbrook Academy following an Ofsted Inspection in January 2016.

Dr Asong said: “Everybody is delighted with the outcome of the report, which reflects the dedication and commitment of both staff and the Stanford & Corringham Schools’ Trust.

“Whilst we appreciate that the Inspector’s Report highlights that there are still areas of improvement needed, we believe that we are on the right path to ensuring that Hassenbrook Academy moves out of special measures.

“This has been a very challenging time for both students and parents but I am confident that by continuing the journey we have started together, we will achieve a positive outcome”.

The Inspector also said there were “encouraging “green shoots” of progress matched to initial signs of improving standards and some recent improvements in the quality of teaching and learning for all pupils.

He added: “Many of the planned changes are at an early stage. Nevertheless, the foundations for improvement are being established appropriately across the Academy’s work.

“It is still too early to evaluate the full impact of actions taken."

Mr Phil Burr, Chair of Governors at Hassenbrook Academy said “I am grateful to the Thurrock Local Authority, all staff and parents for their support which is evident in the rapid improvements that we are witnessing here.

“I am also pleased that our work with the Stanford & Corringham Schools’ Trust is beginning to raise standards for students and work for our community.”
